Frivolous thoughts

Ahhhhh. My nus decision isn't out yet. :( Darn. I wanna get into the engineering and economics double degree programme.. Ahwell. What is to be, will be.

Had a lovely express pedicure at voxy after work yday. The ngee ann city branch has changed it's layout. There's now 5 lovely pink sofas with comfy cushions, instead of the earlier layout of uncomfy chairs in front of tables for manicures. One plus point is the readily available current issues of magazines (most places only stock outdated ones). Voxy costs $17 for an express pedi, but it's inclusive of a mini foot massage. Hmm. Somehow I still prefer polished diva's $12 express pedi in a massage chair and it's soothing cosy ambience. :) I guess I'm not one for brightly lit shops. Especially when I'm to spend an hour or more in it.

Met up with mum after that to do a lil bit of shopping. Brought mum to take a look at the coveted tocco bag, but mum wasn't impressed. Ahwell. I've been persuaded to wait for nicer designs. :)

Today at work was.. pretty fun. Haha. I generally dress less conservatively on friday since, well, it's friday. Received lots of weird looks from my colleagues in my pink capris last week. :( Although I think they're quite ok, I shan't wear them anymore since the other relief teachers insist they are indeed too casual. So this week, I wore a white pleated knee length skirt n a sky blue top (it's my current fav colour) with white and pink mules as well as my pearls. When leaving school, I met my H1 class, and they gave me weird looks!! Sigh. It felt as though I was in something wildly inappropriate but I wasn't!! It's just that I tend to wear shirts to their classes in a bid to establish authority and therefore they aren't used to me in something slightly more casual??

Took a loooooong bus ride to parkway after work to meet angeline. She wanted to check out this shop, Stege, to get her nose pierced, and she did it!! The needle went in soooo fast. She said it doesn't hurt the least bit, but still, I'm too chicken to get my ears pierced. Haha. The thrill of wearing pretty earrings does not offset the risk of infection. :X Hmms. Fine, I just don't like needles. Excuses huh.

Yay. Looooong weekend ahead. I love term 2. Week 4, 6 n 8 have long weekends. So they're nicely spaced. Good for well deserved breaks eh? It's interesting how every public holiday this term is on a monday or a friday. Ok, not so interesting since there's only 3 public holidays. But still. :)

Random thoughts

Haha. I've had quite some fun this week. There's this bio relief who's only here for the week, and he's pretty interesting to talk too. He's influencing us to be more slack too. We've been going down for 2 meals a day. Early lunch/breakfast and main lunch later on. Haha. Ahwell. 'Tis pretty fun having random about-nothing-in-particular conversations.

Yay! It's thursday and we've a looooong weekend coming right up. :D Haha. There's sports day this afternoon so I'd get to leave early.. Uhhem. Shall check out the nice tocco bag I've been eyeing.

I love starbucks. Went for a drink yday after work cuz I've been craving one for ages. Mocha Valencia Frappucino with added coffee jelly bits. Yummy. Totally sinful, but utterly delicious. I miss the hours on end spent mugging at starbucks just a few months ago. For a period of time, I've spent so much time at starbucks that I was sick of their drinks.. We seem so removed from jc life right now.. Hmm. Ps starbucks is hiring. I feel sooo tempted. But the pay!!! It'd be lots of fun, but low paying fun. Ahwell. They mightn't even want me for a mere 2.5 months. Heard somewhere that they want a 6 months committment. :(

I've been blog surfing, and I feel kinda confused about uni. I dunno whether I'm making the right decision by going upenn. Ahhhhh.

Weekend

Yay. Debs has gotten her driving license! =D

Hehe. The weekend was pretty fun.. Sat was spent running ard orchard rd with mar working up a sweat. Purchased a pretty black pleated skirt n mar a spag strap kinda top. ;D I should probably start building up my uni wardrobe rather than my work one.. Especially tops. I seem to be buying lots of skirts recently. But then, they aren't extravagant so 'tis alright I suppose..

Spent sun morning at tuition.. and the afternoon at west side story. It was pretty good, but not altogether wonderful.. I shan't have overly high expectations next time..

Walked to amk lib after lunch yday and borrowed a gmat book.. Conversations with my colleagues are quite interesting. ;) They all think I'm a naive lil gal though. Bah. I'd show them.

Tired.

I'm exhausted. Despite loving my students, they can still drive me up the wall at times. I suppose this is because teaching isn't my calling. Why am I still teaching then? For the experience, I suppose.. For developing classroom management skills, for interacting with lively students 2 yrs my junior, for building up my confidence.. I would think that I'd make a better sales girl, but.. ahwell. what to do, I've already made my choice and gotta stick to it.

I like marking scripts though. Especially when they follow instructions. It's extremely satisfying awarding almost all of them with level 7 or 8 for spa skill B.. :D At times, when I get really pissed with them, I'd reflect on what I did when I was a student, and somehow, their actions no longer appear to be as bad as before. Perhaps.. this is my retribution for being less than a model student..

But in any case, it's friday! Haha. I didn't expect myself to anticipate weekends in this manner before I've started working. I guess work is a neccessary evil. It's extremely rare to be able to find a job which I'd love to death, but.. it's definitely much worse not having a job in the first place. One shall be thankful for what she has. =)

And.. Debs is having her driving test todae.. wish her good luck, everybody!

Touched

My granddad's truly adorable. Mum's in shanghai visiting dad for the week, and so my sis and I are to fend for ourselves.. But granddad called yesterday to say he's gonna stay over for the week so that he can drive us to sch in the mornings. So sweet..!! Especially when he's not feeling too well himself. No more waking up at 5.30am to squeeze on the bus with lil kids meandering ard amk. Thanks, grandpa! =) I love it when unexpected acts of kindness pop up in my face..

Ahhem. I really feel happy teaching my H2 class. Yesterday's lesson left me with a warm fuzzy feeling inside. My H1 class is getting better too, despite their lack of interest in the subject.. I guess teaching is pretty rewarding, as long as I can look past the misdeamours of the students. Spent the morning marking the timed practice which I gave them a full week ago. Till date, I've only 11 copies with me!! The deadline has been extended time and again. Sigh. I suppose it's inevitable...

Treated sis to dinner at cj yesterday, and after a trip to the supermarket, I'm now broke- again. Yes. Broke. Again. I wanna be a student all over again. It seems a lot easier managing finances as a student..

Refreshing long weekend

I've had lots of fun over the past 3 days; it's infinitely refreshing not to have to wake up at 5.30am 3 days in a row, but today, once again, it's back to looong hrs at work. :(

Friday was happily spent shopping with shan. I can't believe I actually bought 3 items despite being broke. But well, they were sort of irresistable. 1 khaki green tee, 1 cap sleeve white shirt, and 1 delicate cream and green patterned skirt. =) Total damage: $100. K la, not that bad considering the skirt was a steal. Checked out cedele depot at wheelock, but it failed to live up to expectations. It's more of a restaurant rather than a bakery, with lousy service to boot. The lousy service does not justify the higher prices as compared to its cafe-like outlets. Bah. Shall stick to the ones at raffles city, suntec and great world city. :D Met up with rx aft tt to watch ice age 2, having caught the prequel tog 4 yrs ago. It seems that time really flies. It didn't seem that long ago. Hmms. I'm growing old.

Saturday comprised of a lil bit of shopping, lunch at nydc, a trip to central lending lib to load myself down with reading material, and a pedicure at bugis village to rest our feet. :) Polished diva was sadly full; we had no choice but to go to a relatively unknown nail parlour which gave us lousy mani/pedi with air bubbles!! omg. I can do better than that at home. Mar's an absolute darling though. Love her when it's only the 2 of us.

Sunday was spent at paulaners brauhaus. Easter sunday brunch was absolutely delish. Lovely pork knuckle, maultaschen, weisswurst, spargelsalat, gerkelsalat, and ox stew were amongst the wide array of food available. I'm definitely visiting there again in the near future. I love german food. Despite it's heaviness, it's still yummy. I love hearing snippets of conversations in german.. sth I haven't heard in a while. Ich vermisse Deutsch.

Musings at work 2

Yay! Housing application for penn is finally done.. All thanks to maria who helped me to edit (again). =D Still trying to shortlist 6 houses which I wanna apply for. Somehow, I'm very attracted to the idea of apartment style living as opposed to dormitory style, where only 2-4 residents share a bathroom.. Despite having no air conditioner and being located on the far end of campus.. I still wanna live in Gregory. Especially cuz of the Modern Languages Programme.

Bought my Aldo flats yesterday.. Shall wear them next week when I've to go to school myself. I've one more tuition client now! =) Hehe. Doesn't pay as well though, but tis better than nothing I suppose. Shall save. Then I'd have more to spend for hk.

Gonna fly with fran to NY first before taking the train to philadelphia.. =D Tis more fun flying with a friend, and I'd get to visit NY!! Hehe. Lots of shops. Shall window shop. And soak up the atmosphere. =)

Tonight's the principal's talk for j1 parents.. Gotta hang around till 8.30pm at least.. Kinda torturous, I'd say, but at least there's no school tml.

Just had practical with my lovely H2 class. They're cheeky, lively and noisy, but all the more adorable. I'd miss them when their teacher's back. :(

Musings at work..

Hmms. I've already been teaching for 3 weeks!! Time has passed pretty quickly in retrospect, but everyday in school is pretty slow moving I'd say. Most of us relief teachers complain about our light workloads, but I'm pretty sure the permanent teachers complain about the heavy ones too.. Shall be grateful for whatever I have.. =) Another teacher sat through my lesson yesterday.. I was horribly nervous, but she was really nice and gave my helpful suggestions after the lesson.. =D

Maria n I have booked our plane tix n hotel for hong kong!! =D Hehe. Right at the end of the school term.. At least that's something to look forward to.

To say that I'm bored is pretty much an understatement.. Okay. I'm easily bored. It's my own fault, I know.. Nvm, once thursday is over I'd have 3 days of rest! :D Good Friday shall be spent on a whole full day of shopping. =) Sneaking a mere few hrs of shopping after work simply isn't satisfying enough.

I'm gonna get flats today! Pretty Aldo flats, as long as my mum approves of them. =) Feet are killing me after 15 days of spending the entire day in heels (and mostly 3 inch ones at that). As a person of extremeties, flats n high heels appeal to me.. Hehe. I mean, if I'm gonna kill my feet in heels, I might as well make them high enough, right? I am of course, well aware that many do not agree with my line of reasoning, but what the heck, as long as I'm happy, tis alright isn't it? Who cares if I'm irrational?? :D

Bah. I've still an essay to write on why I want to join the Modern Languages Programme at Penn.... The programme is housed in Gregory, which has no air con and is situated at the far end of the campus, but I believe that it is worth is if I get into the programme.... but if not, should I still put Gregory as my choice?? There are other dorms which are much closer to the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences... but. they are dorm like with shared bathrooms, and one is even a high rise!! I'm pretty sure I'd prefer living in a low rise with a smaller, closer knit population.... but what if I regret the inconvenience later on?? ARGH. In any case, I'd still have to finish up my essay............... Essays are the death of me.
